Men for the Abolition of Prostitution manifestoTranslated by Julia Flores To every men for equality between men and women We, men for the abolition of prostitution question the traditional model of masculinity, based on the ideas of control, domination and denial of feelings. We declare ourselfs in favour of a society entirely free of sexism and discrimination based on gender. That is why we consider prostitution is a manifestation of sexual exploitation. Therefore, in the debate on the subject we bring out our point of view: We defend that sexuality must occur at a level of freedom, equality and mutual correspondence, free of hierarchies, domination and commodification. We denounce prostitution as a form of sexual exploitation of prostituted people, in almost all cases women, cause it contributes to perpetuate the socially accepted gender-based violence. We reject that the sex education of many been based on pornography, and the sex industry that reproduce the same patterns of sexual violence found in prostitution For us, "the customer", is primarily responsible for the same, because with its purchase he allows the existence of women who can be sold and helps to generate relationships based on sex domination. We believe that the legal regulation, especially as it has been proposed with limited guarantees for prostitutes, benefits the mafias engaged in prostitution, contributing to its expansion and it's social acceptance, and fuels the existence of child prostitution. We Affirm that at the present time there is almost complete inhibition and tolerance on the the side of politicians, judges and security forces regarding of all those involved in the sex trade that contributes to its expansion and social acceptance. The Dutch legalisation of prostitution has not contributed to the demise of prostitution, but to it's increase. Because when you want to make something disappear you have to combat it, not to legalize it. The example of Sweden where 4 years ago was applied the abolitionist law, have result in the diminish of prostitution and trafficking in women. We believe that statements such as "without prostitution would be more rapes", prostitution "is the world's oldest profession", or "prostitution is the only way to have sex for many people" are completely unacceptable and offensive to men. We men do not have uncomtrollable sexual desires that without prostitution would lead us to rape women. Such arguments are intended to justify the relationship of power of prostitution and simply seeks to defend the rights of sexual exploiters. We reject the accusations of "moralism" and "conservatism" with which they attack the abolitionist stance from various fronts. We all have a moral, but our abolitionist is based on the feminist analysis and the desire to end sexual violence. Moreover, our positions have nothing to do with the prohibition and does not intend to penalize the prostitute or forced her to leave prostitution. The abolitionist stance is intended to implement social programmes of assistance, rehabilitation and alternative employment for those who voluntarily want to change their situation. For us the only ones who deserve punishment are traffickers of women (who trade in women as sexual goods), pimps (who profit from sexual exploitation) and ultimately the "customers" for the use and "commodification " of women's body We see no crime in selling the body by prostitutes, but in the purchase of women, and the considerationt that this purchase create treating women as mere merchandise to serve the wishes of men and subject them to the relationship of power that emerges from the buying of women and who pays. We think that male sexuality and masculinity should be questioned (to deal with relationships with women in a situation of full equality). What fails in male sexuality to assume they have the right to buy women?. Why the "client" does not aspire to have an egalitarian sexual relationship with women but a sexual relationship of domination? We believe that all this must reformulated and as did women we must rethink our social role and the essence of masculinity to respond adequately to the current situation of equality between men and women. That is why we oppose the legal regulation of prostitution, cause legalization means legitimization and normalization of this form of sexual violence, and reduce women to a mere commodity. We believe that political action should be aimed at : To eliminate the conditions that enable and encourage prostitution, which demands gender equality policies and the fight against sexism. Campaigns of prevention, education and awareness about the subject, urging people not to buy sexual services. Pursuing immediately all forms of pimping, with or wtihout consent of the prostituted person, in accordance with the UN Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others stated on December 2, 1949, just and as we assumed when the document was ratified. sex and affection Campaigns and education from an egalitarian vision of sexuality, scientific topics free of macho behaviours To increase the resources devoted to dismantle the networks of prostitution Create a code of ethics to deter and prevent the media from publicizing prostitution. Increase the resources for the dismantling of the prostitution rings operating in our country with trafficked women. Contribute with plans to social reintegration and employment of prostitutes who want to freely and voluntarily leave their situation. Provide job alternatives to prostitutes for their social integration. We believe that, although homosexual prostitution has different characteristics from heterosexual prostitution, it is also a form of sexual exploitation. Therefore, we call heterosexual and homosexual men to engage actively in the fight against prostitution. Men as clients of prostitution have a responsibility to create conditions for its abolition: without men willing to pay would not be commercial sex. MEN, WOMEN AND MEN ARE NOT GOODS, DO NOT BUY THEM!, DOING THAT YOU CONTRIBUTE TO SEXUAL EXPLOITATION. | Lo mas Nuevo / Newer news items | |
